WEBSTER
- Daniel (1782û1852), US statesman and lawyer. A noted orator, he represented New Hampshire 1813û17 and then Massachusetts 1823û27 in the US House of Representatives, as well as Massachusetts in the US Senate 1827û41 and 1845û50. As secretary of state 1841û43 under President W. H. Harrison, he negotiated the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, which settled boundary disputes with Canada
