Letters showing on the board

Enter each letter in its position. Leave unrevealed places empty; a correct guess shows every copy of that letter.

Add wrong guesses here, such as QXZ. Repeated letters are counted once.

Help with your next Hangman guess

Running out of guesses? Our free Hangman Solver turns the word length, revealed letters and wrong guesses into a shortlist of possible answers. Enter what you know, then find the secret word before your game's turns run out.

Use it as a Hangman solver when a familiar pattern refuses to make sense, or as a quick hint when you need a strong next guess. Every new letter makes the results more focused and brings the hidden word closer.

How to Use Our Hangman Solver

Choose the Word Length

Select the number of letters in the hidden word. The Hangman Solver can search for words containing between three and 12 letters.

Enter the Revealed Letters

Add every letter you already know in its correct position and leave the unknown boxes empty. If the answer has seven letters with A in the second position and E at the end, enter A in the second box and E in the seventh.

When a guessed letter appears more than once, Hangman will normally reveal every occurrence. Make sure you enter the letter in all of its known positions so the solver can produce the most useful matches.

Add the Wrong Guesses

Type letters your game has marked absent into the wrong-guesses field. The finder removes words containing any of them. A letter cannot be both revealed and absent.

Find Possible Words

Search using the revealed positions and wrong guesses, then check the suggestions against any category or clue in your game. You can search with only wrong guesses, though more revealed letters usually make the list shorter.

Narrow Down the Hidden Word

The Hangman Solver searches its dictionary for words of exactly the chosen length with every revealed letter in the right position. An unknown box cannot hide another copy of a letter already revealed, and no box can contain a wrong guess.

For example, a six-letter word with C first, T fourth and E last creates the pattern C__T_E. The solver uses that pattern to find words that fit, turning a row of blanks into a much shorter selection of Hangman words.

The tool does not know the category or theme. Very broad patterns can return up to 200 matches, so add every revealed and absent letter you know to make the shortlist more precise.

Find the Best Next Letter

You do not always need to guess the complete word immediately. A shortlist can also help you choose a useful next letter.

Compare the remaining possibilities and look for letters shared by several likely answers. A letter appearing across many candidates can reveal more of the pattern, while a letter that separates two strong possibilities can help you decide between them.

Enter each incorrect guess in the absent-letter field. The finder uses those letters to remove impossible answers, while your own game's remaining-turn rule stays up to you.

Tips for Winning at Hangman

Use Common Letters Early

When the board gives you little information, common vowels and consonants can be sensible opening guesses. However, the most useful letter depends on the likely word, its length and any category supplied by the game. Once a pattern begins to appear, let that evidence guide you instead of following a fixed letter order.

Look for Familiar Word Endings

Groups of blanks can suggest common endings such as -ING, -ED, -ER, -LY or a plural -S. A likely ending can reveal the type of word and make the remaining letters easier to identify.

Do not assume that every word follows a familiar pattern. Use endings as possibilities to test rather than rules that every answer must obey.

Pay Attention to Repeated Letters

Hidden words can contain the same letter more than once. If the pattern still seems impossible after several correct guesses, consider words with doubled consonants or repeated vowels.

In most versions of Hangman, one correct guess reveals every copy of that letter. The number and positions of those copies can be one of the strongest clues on the board.

Use the Category or Clue

Some Hangman games provide a category such as animals, places, food or movie titles. The solver searches letter patterns rather than meanings, so use the category yourself to reject technically matching but irrelevant words.

Recheck the Pattern

One letter entered in the wrong box will remove the real answer from the results. If none of the suggestions makes sense, confirm the word length and the position of each revealed letter before searching again.

What Can the Hangman Solver Solve?

The solver works best with single dictionary words between three and 12 letters. Its word list is broader than the answer list used by many Hangman games, so it may suggest unusual words that your particular game would never choose.

Names, phrases, abbreviations, hyphenated answers and themed terms may be missing. The results should therefore be treated as possible answers rather than a guaranteed copy of the game creator's list.

Hangman Solver Questions

Can I Enter Incorrectly Guessed Letters?

Yes. Add them to “Letters guessed but absent”. Words containing those letters are excluded from the results.

Does It Find Every Possible Hangman Word?

No single dictionary contains every answer used by every version of Hangman. The solver returns up to 200 words from its own dictionary that match the pattern you enter. A particular game may use a smaller, broader or themed answer list.

Can It Solve Hangman Phrases?

The tool searches for one word at a time and supports lengths from three to 12 letters. It does not directly represent spaces, punctuation or several words in one puzzle.

Is the Hangman Solver Free?

Yes. You can use the Hangman Solver for free whenever you need a hint, a better letter guess or help solving the hidden word.
